When I was a kid… I didn’t care for pancakes all that much. And I hated maple syrup. Weird, huh? Now I actually crave pancakes several times a week. Plus I think when you’re a runner, you have to want pancakes. When training for the San Antonio RnR marathon, my running group and I spent (way too many) hours discussing pancakes while covering 16-18-20 miles.
So when I was asked if I wanted the chance to try/review protein pancakes by FlapJacked… of course my reaction was “Yes please!”
They’re ridiculously easy to make… just add water! You don’t even have to crack an egg or measure out any other ingredients. Easy-peasy!
They come in 3 flavors:
- Buttermilk: 200 calories per serving, 17g protein, 6g fiber. Made out of oat, quinoa and coconut flours.
- Cinnamon Apple: 180 calories per serving, 15g protein, 7g fiber. Made out of oat and quinoa flours.
- Banana Hazelnut: 200 calories per serving, 16g protien, 4g fiber. Made out of oat and hazelnut flours.
They come in bags with about 15 servings per bag and cost $17.99 per bag. I received little tiny bags with two servings per bag, so they were perfect to try each flavor.
Of the three, I think the buttermilk was my favorite. Just a classic, straightforward pancake flavor… but definitely a little different. They all have a slight taste that lets you know it is a protein product, not just regular pancakes like you get at your favorite diner. But that’s not bad, they taste great. We had the cinnamon-apple ones for my birthday breakfast a couple of weeks ago.
The founders of the company take inspiration from their 5 children, one is autistic and one has epilepsy. They are active and try to live a healthy lifestyle, but they also want to have food that tastes good and can be enjoyed by the family. The kids were taste-testers in the development process.
You can order them through the FlapJacked website or from Amazon.com.
And now I’m craving pancakes again…
