New Years Running

For the past several years I’ve felt the best way to start a new year was to get up early on January 1 and head out for a run. That seems like a better beginning than a groggy hangover! Usually I just head out to run on my own, but to welcome in 2013 I’m going to enter a couple of races!

Resolution RunOn New Years Eve I’m going to run the Resolution Run from Elemental Running here in Las Vegas. The race begins at 4 PM so participants can still go out and party. I’ll be spending the rest of the evening with my hubby and baby girl though, we’re not big on heading out to parties. Last year we watched the fireworks set off on The Strip from the window of the room that is now Alexis’ room.

Commitment Day 5KOn New Years Day morning I’m going to run the Commitment Day Run. This is a run that is happening simultaneously in 35 cities around the country. From the Commitment Day website:

In a city near you, thousands of people will set out to do a 5K and end up starting a movement. Men, women, families, co-workers and neighbors are making a commitment to live a healthy lifestyle while helping others do the same. Go ahead, join the movement.

Participants can make their own personal commitments for the new year and share them on the commitment boards on the website. I added mine:

Commitment Day pledge

Take a look at the site and see if there is a race near you. Register for the race using this coupon code: CORP0598 and you can save $5 off the registration fee!

What do you commit to doing in the New Year?

  1. I was hoping the Commitment Run was coming to OKC this year. It’s not. Boo. I guess that means I will go out the night before and drink until I’m in the ER. Sigh, same thing I did last year. 🙂

  2. I haven’t thought about next year’s resolution. This year’s was to run a 5k and while I waited a little late, I got it done. Will have to start thinking about it.
