Mammoth Lakes 2011

The hubby, Jade The Boxer and I have spent some time in Mammoth Lakes recently.  It was nice to get away for a while.  I was a little upset at first that my stress fracture/cast/boot was going to ruin the vacation since my original plan was to wake up and run each day, then go hiking with the pup and the spouse each afternoon with some time spent lounging in the hot tub.

Changes had to be made due to my gimp status, so we did more sightseeing from the roadside and short walks into the woods.  We ventured into Yosemite National Park (where they don’t allow dogs nearly anywhere – BOO!), visited many of the lakes in the Mammoth area, saw a movie on a rainy afternoon and just relaxed in mountain air. I still managed to get plenty of dirt and sticks inside my boot and the bottom of my cast is pretty filthy now.

I also wore the Walgreen’s cast cover I purchased for showering purposes into the pool!  There is no way I could swim laps with that thing on since it floats once it is submerged in water.  But that floating action made it perfect for keeping me upright to do deep-water pool running.  Which I LOVED!  I definitely want to try incorporating this into my schedule over the next few weeks. I will probably need to buy a floatation/AquaJogger belt though; I get my cast off on Wednesday and I do not plan on wearing that cast cover if I don’t have a cast!

But for now, I’m leaving you with pictures from the vacay!

  1. Those pictures are incredible! And I love the book – really comical. My grandmother actually tries to figure out whose “droppings” are in the woods, at our cottage up North. Bizarre hobby.

    • What a funny thing to actually figure out in the wild! I figure if it’s really large, I’ll probably want to just leave the area! 🙂

  2. Was thrilled to see your name/website in Runner’s World! When they call you an expert, you know you have arrived. Congratulations!

Also, very cool pics – I’m totally jealous. It was good to see a pic of Kevin, too, or at least his back. I really enjoy your blog…

    • You saw that?! Cool! I didn’t know it had come out until a friend texted me while we were in Mammoth!

Kevin likes to be “off the grid” 🙂

    • That book was deep, I only got through the cover! 😉

Alright, I’ll do something to illustrate the magic of the cast cover.

    • I really loved aqua jogging. I need to get into my YMCA and see what their pool facilities are like. I haven’t been since I got home, since I’ve been busy with work and then getting a new cast (I’m pouting.)

    • When you tell me my photos are lovely, I’m extremely flattered. I can only hope to live up to a fraction of your photographic talent! (I really need to learn all the controls on my camera better!)
