Cooling Temps, Aliens and Me

This morning’s run was great! It was only 80 degrees when I started out at 4:50 AM, instead of the upper 80’s like it has been so many other mornings lately. I started out going slow, wanting to focus on improving some little things with my form. But by the end of the run my legs were really moving, I felt like I had great turnover and was just flying along the roads. It was exhilarating.

Each month in Runner’s World magazine they have an article that spotlights a few races that are happening each month, picking one as the ‘Race of the Month’. Well, August’s issue picked the E.T. Full Moon Midnight Marathon, 1/2, & 10K that takes place in Rachel, NV as the ‘Race of the Month’. This race happens in the middle of the night, entrants are required to wear headlamps or carry lights. The race goes along the highway outside Area 51 and ends in Rachel at The Little Ale’Inn for breakfast and awards.

Well, guess what? I’m going to be running this event with a bunch of my friends. This will be my first 1/2 marathon and I’m way excited. It was kind of fun to see a race I’ve been planning on for the past month get featured in the magazine. It takes place a few days after my birthday, so it will be kind of a birthday celebration for me too!

Hundred Push-Up Challenge:
Week 5, Day 1 – 30, 24, 22, 20, 30 = 126
Holy cow, this is getting hard… I feel like I’m going to end up repeating Week 5 over and over and over… I can barely get out those 30 push-ups in a row. Of course, when I started I couldn’t do more than 10 in a row, so I guess I’m improving! Focus on the positive, right?

  2. Wow I am so jealous of you being able to run a nighttime run like that – I LOVE running in the dark – I even have my own headlamp – trust me, it’s so much better than running a flashlight!

  3. tgorourke: Thanks for the advice on the headlamp. I was pretty sure that running with a flashlight would annoy me, especially since we have to pack our own bottles for water stops (saving the earth with no cups!). I’ll have to find one.
