I remember when I was younger, we would get the “You May Already Be a Winner” cards in the mail and I would start dreaming of winning a large amount of money. I’m sure I thought I would get to buy a ridiculous amount of toys or something like that. Now that I’m an adult I don’t really put much stock in ever “hitting it big”… and I live in Las Vegas, where people supposedly dream of that all the time!

As a (very overly practical) adult, my thoughts whenever I hear of someone winning an absurd amount of money usually goes to how I would save a good chunk of it away, pay off my mortgage and help charities. If you’re in a position to help others I feel like you should.

And apparently PCH agrees! In their annual Give Back event they choose a few worthy charities to receive some much needed funds.

Here’s where the “power of many” comes into play… the Give Back event is run through Facebook (and there are definitely MANY on Facebook) and users can vote for one of the selected charities. The charity with the most votes gets $50,000. But since PCH is feeling generous, each of the 3 groups gets something. The charity with the 2nd most votes gets $35,000 and the 3rd gets $25,000. Winners all around!

The three charities in this year’s event are:

• St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital: The mission of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is to find cures and save children.
• ASPCA: The mission of the ASPCA is “to provide effective means for the prevention of cruelty to animals throughout the United States.”
• USO: The USO lifts the spirits of America’s troops, their families, our wounded warriors and their families and the families of the fallen.

​​It was hard for me to choose one, they’re all good choices! I have my dog, Jade the Boxer, who I love very much and it makes me angry when people are cruel to animals. I have family who have served our country in the military, spending time overseas and I’m grateful for those men and women who put their lives on the line (as well as their families who send their fathers/mothers/brothers/sisters/sons/daughters into battle). But I’m a mother of a 14-month-old… and since having a baby, anything bad that happens to little kids makes me weep. Hearing stories about kids with illness/disease breaks my heart. I’ve turned into one of those people that cries at the television, even fictional depictions. So I put my vote toward St. Jude’s.

You can vote each day and to thank people for their assistance, PCH is awarding three $5000 prizes. So you can dream about having some extra money to play with or to live responsibly with.
