My Healthy Meal

Last Friday I had the opportunity to visit My Healthy Meal here in Las Vegas. My Healthy Meal is a store where people can stop in and grab a healthy meal option for breakfast, lunch, dinner or even a snack. Meals are portion controlled and made with real ingredients right here in Las Vegas. The store is open 7 days a week and opens at 7 AM on weekdays, so people could stop in to grab a breakfast wrap, parfait or snag something for lunch later in the day.

The store is in Summerlin, tucked into a corner of a shopping plaza next to a tanning salon.

They have a lot of different health options in the meals: high protein, gluten-free, vegetarian, vegan, etc. Each of these meals are marked with a little icon code to indicate what health attributes you are getting with that item.

When walking in, the first thing you really notice is the wall of coolers housing the meals. They are divided up by meal (breakfast or lunch/dinner) as well as content of the meal (chicken, beef, seafood, etc.). They even have kids meal options!

There are also “a la carte” options, where you can pick a protein in varying sizes (3 oz., 5 oz., etc.) and a side of a grain (rice, quinoa, etc.) and/or vegetables.

I liked that nothing about the store felt like a “diet” promotion, but it really seemed focused on a healthy lifestyle. Nevermind the fact that the word “diet” should not automatically mean some kind of deprivation/restriction plan, but that’s the way it’s evolved.

10 Commandments of My Healthy Meal

I loved the photos all over of people living active lifestyles!

In addition to the coolers of food, they have tables in the center with snacks and dessert options.

The peanut butter protein balls are addicting and amazing!

The granola bars are full of recognizable ingredients (oats, apricots, cranberries, sunflower seeds) and they taste great. Soft and chewy.

I got to try a few of the meals as well. I love when you look at the ingredient list it is pretty short and all recognizable. No novel-long ingredient lists full of chemistry class ingredients!

My Healthy Meal - chimichurri sirloin
Chimichurri sirloin – chimichurri sauce was really yummy, I added a side of asparagus to this when eating it at home. It said to cook with the lid off, but it exploded. I recommend leaving the lids on, just slightly askew!
My Healthy Meal Spicy Tuna Bowl
Spicy Tuna Bowl – This tasted too mayonnaise-y for me. So it wasn’t my favorite.
My Healthy Meal - Eggplant Parmesan
Eggplant Parmesan – Well played, eggplant cooked well without being greasy and breaded! The cheese wasn’t my favorite and I might have included a little more tomato sauce. The ingredients say asparagus, but mine obviously has beans on the side. They were delicious though!
Turkey Meatballs from My Healthy Meal
Turkey Meatballs: The quinoa spaghetti was a little crunchy in some spots after nuking and the meal looks kind of sad. But the turkey meatballs tasted great. I think this one could benefit from having a vegetable included with it. I bulked it up with carrot sticks and an apple on the side.

The meals can be kept in the refrigerator for 3-5 days (they recommend three) or they can be put in the freezer. The packages all give instructions on heating the meals, but it seems to be from refrigeration. It would be nice if it mentioned something about from frozen. And like I mentioned above, it says to remove the lid but I would just loosen the lid so your food doesn’t explode all over the microwave! Maybe it’s just me that has microwave problems.

They have 5- and 30-day challenges, where people can get 3 daily meals as well as 2 snacks. These are a nice packaged option where you can choose your own meal options or consult with them to build your menus based on nutritional needs. I plan on doing a 5-day challenge soon, so I’ll report in on all of those meal options too! (I’m hoping it includes black bean brownies, because I’m really intrigued to try those!)

  1. What a great idea! I wish we had something like that here, especially near my office which is in the middle of a fast food wonderland. The few healthier options wear thin pretty quickly.

  2. I actually had the chance to try their meals at a recent race I ran in Las Vegas. Now I will say that yes, they did have the food on site and ready to eat, but I don’t think that made up for the lack of flavor & enjoyment. I believe it was the turkey meatballs & spaghetti they were serving, but it was hard to tell without looking. I found it to be bland and very watery. I will say that we were given a free opportunity to go to the store and try a meal there, which I plan on doing in the hopes that they will redeem themselves.

    • Please come weigh in if you do! If you notice, I had positives and negatives about each entree I tried. I think (hope) as they get into their groove the flavors and preparation methods will improve!
