Group Practice #13
6 miles on the schedule
Start time: 7:00 AM for the walkers, 7:30 AM for the runners
Location: Vistas
The last practice of the season… I admit, I’m looking forward to several weekends to do my own thing, but it’s also a little sad. Each season we have some carryover from other seasons, and we also have a bunch of new faces. I love meeting new people, but I also really like it when we get down to the core group of people who have committed to the training! I am going to miss a lot of these people.
But before we say goodbye, we still have the race next weekend!
The schedule originally called for everyone to show up at 7:00… but when I sent out the weekly coaches message I accidentally told everyone we’d have the split start. I guess it’s a good thing I did that, because if everyone had started at 7 AM the news media wouldn’t have had much to show!
Yeah, that’s right, the local CBS station showed up to do interviews and get footage of our team. The bummer is that I was already out on the course with the first group of people so I didn’t get to be interviewed… BAH! I’m good on TV! (And I say this with just my years on my college television station, when few of us were really that good! LOL!)
So I saw the early starters off, ran through a shortcut so I could beat them around and take pictures. And while I waited, I snapped a “glamour shot” of myself. 🙂
I got to see a friend who coaches a different running group while I watched for my team. She was coaching her group in the area and pulled over to say hi.
Once I saw everyone come through, I ran the course backwards to pick up people on their second lap and to make sure a couple people were okay. A few decided they weren’t feeling it and just wanted to take it easy for race day, thus they quit after one lap.
After everyone was done we had our race day prep clinic and passed out everyone’s race day jerseys. We also passed out posters to team members. The posters are made for our team by kids at a local school. When we travel for a race these posters end up on people’s hotel room doors. But when it’s a local race, we just end up passing them out to all the team members.
We’re ready for next weekend, it should be a fun adventure. A race on the Strip at Night is a whole new experience for all of us!
