Over the holidays I got to spend some time with my brother and his family at my mom’s house. He has a little girl, she’s 2-years-old and an absolute doll. One of the things she liked to do was to grab my hand, lead me over to the treadmill and say, “Let’s go.”
She’d stand in front of me on the belt, I would start the machine, set it to 0.6 mph and we’d trundle on for about a minute until she’d say, “Stop now.”
Sometimes she would immediately ask to go again, other times we had a little bit of a break before the next round. But these little moments were so precious to me!
Perhaps I have a future running buddy in my niece?
That is precious. Wait til she gets to be 8, and then she’ll start whining “I’m tired”, “it’s too far”, *huff and puff* “my legs hurt”… what I would give to have a 2 year old again, who thinks that she can do anything, rather than a 10 year old who thinks she can’t function. Sigh…
I guess there is an age range where kids think everything adults want is designed to torture them! Hopefully they grow out of it! π
Love it! It makes my heart proud when my daughter wants to run with me. My favorite thing she says when we run is, “on your market, set… GO!” She loves to race. π
I am sure that your niece will always remember running with her Aunt Jill.
I would love to have a daughter some day that wanted to run with me. I see the little girl running skirts at Target and think they’re so cute, maybe I need to buy one for my niece this spring!
That is so adorable! Does your brother run as well? I imagine it would be fun to be in a running family!
No, my brother doesn’t run. It would be awesome to have a running family, it would be great fun to have a whole group of us show up at a race!
That is so fun! It’s a great age — very impressionable. You’re obviously making a good impression on her!
Very cool. She sounds like my niece, Katie. Are her parents runners? It’d be great if she could do a kids’ race some day!
