Nike Human Race Contest

The Nike Human Race is going to be on October 24 this year. I no longer use the Nike+ system because my sensor died and I got a Garmin about 3 weeks before the sensor croaked anyway… but I still love the spirit and idea of this race.

The whole concept is that everybody across the globe runs a 10K on the same day. Some cities have large organized races. In places without official organized Human Race events, people can run their own race. They then upload the results to the Nike+ site and can compare their effort against people worldwide. But the best part is that each participant gets to choose a charity that their miles go toward, so Nike raises money based on the number of people participating and donates to several good causes.

I ran the race on my own last year and I plan on doing it again this year, whether as part of a group or on my own remains to be determined! Maybe we should organized a bloggers Human Race on that day… everybody would come and log their results on a post for the race that day?

Nike is currently running a contest for people to apply to be a Human Race Ambassador. If you’re selected you get:

a visit to Nike World Headquarters in Beaverton, Oregon on August 12-13, 2009, plus a Human Race Kit to get you started including an HD flip-cam, the new LunarGlide+ running shoes, a Nike+ SportBand and more. Along the way, we will also provide you with the opportunity to earn a number of additional goodies such as the new iPhone 3GS, a year’s supply of running shoes, meet and greets with select Nike athletes and more.

It would be really cool to win that contest, although I feel a little presumptuous to even enter… I feel like I’ve kind of met my quota for awesome contest prizes in my lifetime.

But that doesn’t mean that I wouldn’t love to see one of you lovely people win the contest. So go ahead and check out the details… maybe you’ll be the lucky winner!

Nike Human Race Ambassador contest

  1. sweet contest! i have a + too although it has seen better days (and it’s not even a year old!) how long did your sensor last? i am beginning to consider “the upgrade”. (cue ‘heaven/angels’ ahhh music)

i dont know if i have what it takes! i am often too shy to enter these things… we’ll see! def sounds cool!

    • My sensor lasted about 6 months. Not as long as I’d hoped, but it recorded about 600 miles. (It totally failed during a marathon and a half marathon though!) But I think they’ve been upgrading the Nike+ technology lately too. I know the Sportband is completely reworked.

  2. I’m like you. Replaced the (relatively innacurate) Nike+ sensor with my Garmin, so I’d have to dust off my Nike+ to see if it still works (I’d also have to find both ends of the little sucker)…but I love the contest…and I think you’d be a great ambassador!

    • Yeah, when you haven’t been using it for a while and it consists of two small parts… finding them could prove a challenge!

Thank you, I think I’d be a great ambassador too… after all, I was interviewed by Runner’s World last year about the race. 🙂

    • Thank you! I hope you do participate, I think the Human Race is a REALLY cool concept and I would love to see as many people as possible participate worldwide.
