Phoenix Arrival

Well, I am now in Phoenix and I have to admit, I’m loving this weather! I know I can’t complain too much, many of you have had much harsher weather lately, but I have been so cold in Las Vegas over the past month or so. Warmth is definitely needed! And while it is warming up in Vegas right now, it’s not as nice as things here in Phoenix are now!

My mom and I drove here today, making a leisurely drive across the desert. We arrived, got checked into our hotel (We’re basically staying AT a mall. It’s great, I can look out my window and see the direct entrance to the Macy’s. For some reason, malls are so much more exciting to me when they’re in another city.) and started to figure out our surrounding area.

Want to know how cliched we are? We actually ate dinner at a PF Chang’s tonight. All participants in the race received a card for 15% off your entire check that’s good (repeatedly) until February. And since there was a PF Chang’s within walking distance of where we are staying, we were tired of being in a car anyway and it sounded pretty good, we chose that for dinner. It just sounds kind of funny to say that we are in town for the PF Chang’s Rock ‘n’ Roll race and actually choose to eat there as well.

Tomorrow we’ll be going to the expo. My mom is doing the half-marathon and I’m doing the full. We’re both feeling some pre-race jitters, but also the excitement is building. This is our second year in a row back on the course, so it feels a little like a “homecoming” for me.

While at the expo we get to meet Alissa from A Runner’s Balancing Act, I’m so excited! And of course we’ll scout around for the cool new products, I love finding things at expos! I think we’re going to attend a clinic on Garmins while we’re there, since we both have Forerunner 305’s. Later in the afternoon we’ll have a pasta party with my friends and then we’ll try to get to bed early. I got to bed early before San Antonio and actually fell promptly asleep, but then my sister-in-law texted me and woke me up. So a word to all my friends and family… please do not text me tomorrow evening, okay? An e-mail will suffice! 😉

Don’t know if I will post much before the race, I may try and I may not. (It’s a mystery!) I’ll be back with a race report as soon as I can… but on Monday I will be getting a massage, watching a chick flick and generally chilling with my mom before we have to travel home on Tuesday.

  1. I’m so jealous you and Alissa will get to meet in person! Good luck to you – I will be keeping my fingers crossed your stomach stays alright during the race. I can’t wait to hear all about it!
