The Days are Numbered

I leave on Friday for San Antonio. My mind is swirling with all the things I need to do/remember before then. And then there is the whole issue of tapering…

All of my runs this week are itty-bitty. I ran 30 minutes today. I will run 20 minutes tomorrow and on Thursday. That’s barely a warm-up! Our coaches told us that we were supposed to eliminate all strength training during this week too.

Since I practice a lot of yoga, I wondered what the rules were on that during the taper phase. I asked around and Sage Rountree, a real professional in this area, gave me the following advice:

Skip anything hard, go very gentle. Spend time working on focus, breathing, relaxing. Good luck!

Maybe extra time, just laying on my yoga mat in meditation is in order… if it didn’t seem like this final week all the sudden got excessively busy. How does that work? The time that I’m supposed to be resting more I’ve got more stressors in my life!

I got my TNT shirt tonight. I painted my name on it and then decided it looked bare, so I added a flower to the side. And the flower is goofy looking… I should have just left it with my name. Or maybe I should have put JillWillRun.com across the shirt!

While out running today I came to the conclusion that I’m probably not going to take my iPod to the marathon. The only reason I would want it would be for the Nike+ stats. But since the battery in it has been draining exceptionally fast and I can make a “psuedo” Nike+ file with my marathon time, I can still log the miles. There are bands on the course and when I run with my friends I usually have the volume down so low I can barely hear the music anyway.

Okay, this post didn’t have a lot of focus. Truthfully, I’m all out of focus for the day. I need to go to bed.

  1. This is so exciting! I have no friends who run marathons (anymore at least; eric refuses to ever run another one) and all my ‘normal’ friends think I’m nuts. So I’m super excited to follow you on your journey this weekend. YAY!

  2. Hey Jill,
Good luck this Sunday. I saw your post on MarathonChirs’ website. I will also be there. I will be wearing the Starwars Jersey. Say hey if you see me.

  3. ~moe~: I’m so excited to have a whole circle of running friends to share this excitement with, even if most of you are online!

Chad: I’m definitely going to be on the lookout for a Star Wars Jersey now! Good luck on Sunday!
