Molly in Women’s Running

I was first introduced to Women’s Running magazine at the marathon expo for the 2008 PF Chang’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon, my first marathon. It was called Her Sports and Fitness at the time. In talking to Dawna Stone, the founder of the magazine, I really liked their philosophy and how they wouldn’t feature articles or advertisements geared toward losing X pounds or X inches in X days. They do, on occasion, have articles about weight loss, but usually they are pretty healthy and aren’t geared toward making all women slot into one specific “ideal” size.

I think it would be a lot of fun to write for the magazine, I really do enjoy writing and talking about running and it would be awesome to do it for a publication! They also organize a half marathon in Florida that sounds pretty cool, the next one is in November and it features a special 2-in-1 medal/necklace for finishers.

The latest issue of the magazine came out a couple weeks ago. It’s the March/April 2010 issue. (Yeah… there’s a giant feature about weight loss on this specific issue… what are the odds that when I choose to write about it they choose that as their biggest headline?)

And if you turn to page 47, you’ll see my friend Molly!

She is featured in their “Women Who Move” section. The section always showcases a few women who can help inspire others, but they aren’t necessarily elite athletes. While elites can be inspirational, I also like to hear about “regular” runners, perhaps that’s a big reason why I’m so drawn to running blogs. I think it would be really cool to be featured in the “Women Who Move” section someday!

If you subscribe to the magazine, flip it open and read about my friend. And if you don’t get it, pick up a copy so you can see my friend!

As I am writing this, Molly and my other friends Bill, Jimmy and John are all running the Old Pueblo 50 miler in Arizona. I hope they’re having a blast!

  1. Hey I get that mag! I haven’t opened it yet, cause I am only half through my RW but that is sooooo cool! I would love to write for a fitness mag!!!!

  2. I jusxt got a free 3 month subscription for Women’s Running and a few others when I signed up for the Pittsburgh Marathon! I’m not really a magazine kind of person, but I’m looking forward to these! I wouldn’t be surprised if you’re featured in a magazine someday! You are a great encouragement and a great runner!!!

  3. I love that mag…I think I used to have a subscription, but come to think of it, I haven’t seen it lately (clearly, I have too many magazine subscriptions)…
