The End of The Vegas

This morning, I ran to the end of Las Vegas….

The outskirts of Las Vegas
The outskirts of Las Vegas

Apparently it was only 3.14 miles away from my house.
And that was after running in the opposite direction from the “end” before looping back to the road that took me to the “end”.

I’ve run on this road plenty of times, but it narrows down at a certain point where there is no sidewalk and basically no shoulder. Thus I’ve always used that point to dictate turning on other roads or turning around.

Instead of turning, this morning I pressed forward. And found the road  pretty decent beyond that narrow point. And I literally ran to a point where the road ended and I was facing out into wide open desert. It was beautiful, peaceful and soothing. Even though it was still partly dark and I couldn’t snap a picture with my iPhone that truly captured the end of civilization the way I experienced it, I did want to share a little bit of that moment with you.

It was one of those mornings where I just wanted to scream by the end….

I LOVE THIS SPORT!

  1. I’m liking the new look of your blog – very clean, and minimalist, right? That picture you took, and the way you describe it as looking and feeling is what I absolutely love about the southwest. I find the wide open spaces that you have can be so relaxing. I am so glad that you seem to be in such a good place right now where running is concerned.

    • The design is a lot cleaner, I like it. I may add a picture/banner across the top though, just to give it a little more personalization. But I also like that this format actually allows me to post photos in a slightly larger size. The old one was very constricted.

You’re so right about the west, the wide open space is wonderful. I’m not sure I’d know how to live in the cities the way they are in the east!

  2. I like the cleaner look too!

And I love the pic- next December 2010, my girlfriends and I are coming out to Vegas to run a 1/2 and I CANNOT wait!!!

    • Are you running the 2010 RnR Vegas? Sweet…. I’ll probably do it too. It seems weird to even consider not entering the biggest race in my hometown! I did the 1/2 last year and am doing it this year. I would like to do the full at some point too, timing hasn’t worked right for that yet!

      • Yeah, that is the race! Making a long weekend out of it. It is like 14 months away but I am looking so forward to it already!

  3. This is why I need an iphone! Someday . . .

But wow, this was a really cool post–LOVE the photo. I can totally see where you are coming from with the “end of civilization” thought. It’s almost eerie! I love runs like that where you feel like you make a remarkable discovery . . .
