Lovin’ LSD

This morning I woke up before my alarm went off… by just a few minutes. The clock read 3:52 AM so I got up, turned the alarm on my phone off and started to get ready.

For some reason, I was really slow going this morning. I was having thoughts of “Why do I get up so damn early? On a Saturday? What’s wrong with me?” I puttered around the house, questioning myself and why I do this for a while. By the time I finally dragged myself out my front door, it was 5:38. That’s some serious heel draggin’ there.

But the moment I was out the door I was glad to be on my way. It’s like I found the switch to being happy just by opening my front door and stepping out into the dark world, ready to take on the run.

I didn’t plan an exact route, once again I just turned on streets as I felt like it. But it’s not like any of the streets were new, I had run on all of them before, just not in that precise order. I listened to an audiobook, some stupid chick lit book that is annoying me but I will finish it now because I need closure. I enjoy the early morning run because it just feels like 2 hours of ME TIME!

As I was getting toward the end of the run though, my gut started to churn. I looked at my Garmin and noted that I had done 10.4 miles. I was approaching the east entrance of my neighborhood, the side I never enter through because there is no gate box on that side. The gates in my community are opened up today for a neighborhood yard sale so I decided to just enter through that side, which would shave about a mile or so off my run, but that was good. I still would wrap up around 11 miles.

I turned in and got to run past a bunch of my neighbor’s junk that they are trying to sell. One family had so much stuff the entire yard and driveway were covered while their next door neighbor was a woman sitting in front of her house with about 10 items of clothing hanging on a rack for sale. It made for some interesting scenery as I ran home.

Now I’m going to “watch” football with my husband and take care of chores around the house. Hope everybody else has a good weekend!

  1. Nice job sticking with it and getting out there for a good run. Sometimes I feel the same way about chick lit. The characters are so annoying, but I still have to finish reading to see how the story ends.

  2. Ha, I think I ask myself the same question EVERY weekend morning I get up at the crack of dawn . . . I am just SO not a morning person. But like you, I always end up being glad I did. Glad you were able to stick with it and get it done 🙂

  3. Jill, you know how early I get up, so you know what it means when I say GIRL, THAT’S EARLY! On a Saturday! But then again, it’s so friggin hot where you live, it makes sense.

So, did you stop to buy anything for your neighbors?! Whenever I’m out running and see yard sales, I always slow down a bit just in case i see anything good, it doesn’t hurt to make a mental note, speed up, and then come running back to buy it! 🙂

  4. 3:52am….ok that’s crazy early! that’s like something stupid me would do!!! But you do live in vegas-so dark and cool is so much better than hot and sunny!!

Good run except for the tummy churning…that always sucks!!!

  5. that is some serious putzing around! but, at least you still got out the door. i will admit, i have gotten up early, gotten ready to run, and then gone back to bed an hour later… haha. nice job on the 11! i think long runs are what keep me sane!
