Monday Motivation

I’m not a big country music aficionado… in fact, I don’t ever choose to listen to country music, I don’t know what is current or old in country music and I don’t know very many country artists.

But my mom recently got a mix CD from a friend that includes a whole eclectic range of music. (Seriously eclectic… from Dance Hall Crashers to Kermit the Frog, this thing covers it all… in a completely awesome way.) The very first song on the CD has some lyrics that kind of struck me as being poignant and applicable to running.

If you’re going through hell
Keep on going, don’t slow down
If you’re scared, don’t show it
You might get out
Before the devil even knows you’re there

From the song “If You’re Going Through Hell” by Rodney Atkins

Whether it’s a hard run, a tough race, or dealing with injury/illness/setbacks… those lines can help in multiple situations. They’ve boosted my spirits and just sharing them with you makes me feel a little sunnier today.

Hope you have a good week!

  1. Love that song! 🙂 I go back and forth with Country. not a HUGE fan – but I do have phases where I’m all into it. Dierks Bentley is my favorite – not “too” country, and he’s so damn cute. 🙂 he has a few good songs for running too!

  2. OMGGGGGGGG!!!!! I went to high school (and was good friends, in fact) with two of the Dance Hall Crashers. They have a niche following, so I’m thrilled that someone else out there appreciates them!

I know this has nothing to do with your post… I’m just blown away! 🙂

  3. I LOVE that song! And you are so right . . . the lyrics are just awesome.

And I too love that you appreciate the Dance Hall Crashers! Ha, my best friend and I performed a song of theirs (“Cricket”) in the talent show in high school!! Hehe, this makes me so happy! 🙂

  4. I too am not a huge fan of country music but god, those lines could be used for so many situations, even outside of running! (Like your and my work the last few weeks!)

    🙂
