National Running Day

National Running Day Logo 2009Today is National Running Day.

National Running Day is a national initiative whereby many of the major organizations within the running industry are joining forces in an unprecedented unified effort to nationally and locally promote running as a healthy, easy, and accessible form of exercise. The inaugural National Running Day will be Wednesday, June 3.

From New York to San Diego, the day will celebrate the benefits of running as part of a healthy and active lifestyle aimed at combating some of today’s most pressing health issues.

You can participate in National Running Day anywhere—you don’t have to be in one of the cities hosting events to take part. At the least, all it takes is to wear your running shoes throughout the day, go for a run, and invite a friend to join you.

I signed up with the Facebook group saying I would participate… but that was before I knew my schedule would change. No, not my running schedule… just my life schedule. And since that time I’ve had travel plans come up. I’ll be spending much of the day in airports.

Will I run? I’ll try my hardest to get something in, but it may be tough. Does it count if I run down an airport terminal?

Are you getting your run in?

  1. I packed my gym bag this morning and planned a bike and quick swim after work. You know why…beause it is National Running Day and that is y life! How it got to be today and I didn’t know this, I do not know. Now that I do know, I will probably change my plans for this afternoon, or at least try and get a mile or two in. Hope you are able to fit something in 🙂

  2. Unfortunately not, this is my day off because of my track practices on Tuesday nights. And my meeting with my financial advisor. I wish I could though!
I second the sprinting as counting!

  3. I did! I ran 6 at lunch. My friend and I were going to get something together at work to get NRD up and running, natch, for our co-workers. We have to run and qualify on certain times for our job so we thought this would be a good way to do that. Unfortunately we didn’t get it together in time. Maybe next year! Or maybe in November for World Run Day. 🙂
