This much pink can only mean one thing.

The annual Race for the Cure to benefit the Susan G. Komen Foundation and raise money for breast cancer research!

This marks the 3rd year in a row my mom and I have participated in this race and I hope it’s a tradition we continue for a long time.

I didn’t wear my Garmin so I don’t know my official time. I’ll update it later on when I have it, but it doesn’t really matter. Last year there were over 8500 participants and I imagine it’s probably similar for this year. Much of the time is spent dodging people at the beginning, so I wasted a lot of energy doing that. I also started experiencing some calf cramping after about 2.5 miles (rough estimate), but it was still a good time.

The most important thing was that I had fun and got to spend time with my rock star mom.

UPDATE on 05/03/09: My results – 26:51! Woo hoo! I was 19th out of 105 in my division. Not every entrant was timed, you had to actually pay extra to be a timed runner. So out of the 958 timed participants, I came in 260th.

UPDATE on 5/04/09: The results have been changed on the site, I’m now listed as 17th out of 102 in my division. I kind of anticipated this, since one of the people listed higher than me in the Women 30-34 division was named “Matthew”.

  1. I SO wanted to run this! Andrew is at Wildflower this weekend… didn’t even occur to me to stick the girls in a stroller and go!

    Good work rocking the pink!

  2. Our Komen race is in November…but the same thing. A great event. Waaaaay too many people to worry about time, but a favorite nonetheless.

You and your mom are hot!!

  3. AWESOME! And pink road ID?? I must get one!

How cool that you and your mom run this race! I’m running REVLON next weekend-my friend was diagnosed with breast Cancer in october and she has a team that I’ll be running on!

    Way to go!

    • That’s awesome that you’re participating. It makes it so much more personal when someone you care about has been affected.

I can give you a discount code for a $1 off a Road ID if you truly want to order a pink one!

  4. r4tc is a great race! you look great in all your pink accessories, and i love that you and your mom do this one together. hopefully this time you didn’t fall on your face 😉 (just bustin’ chops)

      I also use online resources… YogaDownload.com and YogaToday.com.

I want to get a Shiva Rea disc, Sage Rountree’s disc and Kimberly Fowler’s disc.

  5. I have those pink socks!! I was going to run the Race for the Cure up here next weekend…but I have a packed weekend and I don’t really have people to run it with me. Love all the pink though!

    • My mom’s elite number brought her some extra attention too, people kept asking her questions about the race. One guy even said, “With a number like that, you’ve got to know everything that’s happening here…”

    • I kind of like my elite number, too. I’m thinking of framing it, because it may be my only chance!

  6. Awesome, congratulations!! I wish my mom lived closer so we could do something like that together!
