100 Run 100 Day Challenge

My friend Melinda sent me an e-mail about the concept of “100 Runs in 100 Days” as a challenge. I guess it all started on the web site SlowTwitch.com and she received an invitation to do the challenge amongst a group of friends and family.

The rules are that everyone participating must run AT LEAST one mile or for 15 minutes each day. It must be running (no walking), so as long as you keep shuffling along to make that 15 minute time requirement, you’re good. The rules also state that you can double up runs in one day, one in the morning and one in the evening, in order to get a rest day the following day.

It sounds like kind of a fun idea and the slightly competitive side of me wants to play a long. However, the practical side of me is saying, “Hey, you’ve got another marathon in a few short weeks and you’re looking forward to taking the week off after that event, maybe this isn’t the best time to start a challenge like this.”

So maybe someday in the fairly near future I’ll implement my own 100 Days 100 Runs challenge here on JillWillRun.com, sometime after the PF Chang’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon. If so, who wants to play? It’s only 1 mile each day and maybe I could secure some prize giveaways for participants… Think about it!

  1. Wow…that’s a challenge, but I think I’ll say no. I need to be on my game for my marathon training and it doesn’t have me running every day or two-a-days to make up for it. Hmmm. another time though!

  2. At least 1 mile every day? That doesn’t sound so bad. Of course, when I was younger I got roped in to a drinking game; I remember saying “A shot of beer every minute? That will be easy”. Um, no.

    Count me in.

  3. Alright, this is cool! It seems like a lot of people want to play. Maybe I’ll look at starting this on February 1 or something?

Chris: Special rule for you, a shot for every mile!

Terri: Yes, you could run for 60 minutes on one day, but you’d have to split those 15 minutes up by at least an hour in between. đŸ˜‰ I’d have to clarify the rules when I run this challenge myself, but the way it worked on the other thing I saw was your two in one day had to be separated by at least an hour to count as two individual runs. But nice attempt at fudging the rules! LOL!

  4. I run for 35 mins every alternate day and cross train for 30 mins every other day. I suppose this counts to qualify for the 100!
    100 runs:
This is a great way to fire old runners like me. Am 51, male, live in India, Delhi where running on the roads is a no no. The treadmill is where I run. The problem is motivation. Let’s see how long I can keep going. I was on an interval phase of training after a long break when I saw the 100. Here’s what I do:
    0 – 5 mins – warm up at 7.5 kmph
    5- 10 mins – steady pace at 9. kmph
    10 – 15 mins – recovery at 8 kmph
    15 – 25 mins – intervals 10 kmph for 30 secs switch to 8 kmph for 60 secs
    25 – 30 mins – recovery at 8 kmph
    30 – 35 mins – cool down.
I vary time spent at each stage to make the runs challenging. Will increase time at each stage, speeds and lengths as I progress.
    1 Jan 1/100 – 3.35 km
    3 Jan 2/100 – 3.45 km
    5 Jan 3/100 – 4.00 km
    8 Jan 4/100 – 4.15 km
Cross train every alternate day. Rest once a week.
    Cheers
    Sanjay
