Over the Heat

I don’t really mind running in the heat. I adapt to it each summer. The thing that I really dislike is when I STOP running in the heat.

It doesn’t matter how far I run; 1 mile… 5 miles… 13 miles… during the run I sweat a little bit, but once I stop moving it’s like my body has turned on a faucet and I’m sweating like crazy.

I always get pink and flushed from running, just part of my natural complexion. But when it’s really hot and I hit the post-run sweatdown, my skin gets really red and it stays that way for a long time.

Morning runs are a little easier, for some reason I don’t get quite as flushed or quite as drenched after those. But after the evening runs I’m super uncomfortable. And since I’m running with other people the majority of the time I run at night, I start to feel very self-conscious. I don’t like sharing my sweaty nastiness with others. (What if they think I’m gross and try to avoid me! LOL! Irrational thoughts…)

But after last night’s run at Fleet Feet I was so warm for so long… even after standing under cool water in the shower. So I think I’m over the heat for this year…. it can cool down to the low 90′s for a while, that would be fine with me. Where do I submit that request?

I’ve submitted my request for cooler weather and NO ONE has answered it!!! ENOUGH of the heat!!!

It must be something our bodies do to help us cool once we stop or something. I ALWAYS sweat more as soon as I get done than I did during the whole run!

It has been raining and gross here in NJ almost all summer. And hot too! Hot, rainy and gross. BLAH! Bring on fall, I too am over this!

Cool down to low 90′s…yikes!! Boy am I glad for our temps right now then. And I was complaining about our 80s…

90′s would be fantastic, I’m with you! After my 5k race last night, it was like I just stepped out of the shower…

I’m all red-faced and sweating buckets after most of my runs. Ugh. Can’t get to the shower fast enough, although it doesn’t always help!

Of course, a “hot” day for me ir probably a “cold” day for you.

Yeah, the level for “cold” is a lot higher on the scale for me than most people now!

silly, don’t be self-conscious! i know i wouldn’t notice any “issues” unless maybe you crapped your pants. sweating, redness, eh that’s normal. that means you were running and working it!

I am SO self-conscious about how much I sweat! I swear, I sweat more than my boyfriend does . . . it’s gross! Sometimes I’ll get home from a run and it will take me like 15 minutes just to stop sweating!!! Ugh. I suppose I should get ready for more of the same, considering I’ll be heading down to Orlando just when things are starting to cool off at home in NYC . . . holy sadness!

That is sad… I’ve just been hearing on the news how nice NYC is supposed to be weather-wise!

I was stopped at the Twin Cities marathon last year around mile 21 because I was so red-faced and sweating that one of the race guys thought something was wrong. I yelled at him for messing up my pace and kept going. :)

It’s been cooler here this summer but I’ve still been sweating profusely. It sucks. I don’t understand where it’s coming from and it takes forever to cool down after. I’m working on it though. :) Let me know if you figure something out.

They stopped you because you were red and sweaty?! Man, they would totally be doing that to me on the course too and that would bug me too! That’s really odd!

There’s also nothing worse than taking a shower and having it “not take” if you know what I mean…

I do know what you mean about the sweating while running with others. Fortunately for me, Lis, who ran with me all last summer, never seemed to mind. Or, she just got used to it!
