Product Review: Nutribody Protein

The past few weeks I’ve been experimenting with Nutribody Protein, I’m really glad I’ve had this opportunity!

I’ve tried mixing this into smoothies and oatmeal, the subtle vanilla flavor is very nice.

Nutribody Protein

But my favorite way of consuming it is to mix it with Cytomax powder to make my own recovery drink. It really works well that way – 1 scoop of Cyto with a 1/4 scoop of Nutribody – shaken in a bottle with water and it dissolves into a smooth, slightly frothy and yummy drink. (As yummy as sports beverages are… I’m not going to claim it rivals a sweet treat from an ice cream or coffee shop!)

But Jill, why this protein and what’s special about it?

Well for me, the biggest reason is that it is non-dairy. Thus it doesn’t have the typical components that can cause digestive issues. (Those components that are usually allergenic for people include: dairy, whey, soy and eggs – all things that are not found anywhere in Nutribody Protein.) Nutribody Protein is made with brown rice and yellow pea proteins.

But Jill, why peas and rice? Huh?

When I told my friends about the product, their first question was “Um… does it taste like brown rice and peas?” I’m very, very glad to report that it does not. It’s got a light vanilla flavor, but it is not overly sweet. In fact, most of the time you would probably need to add it to other items to give it a sweeter taste.

I’m not a scientist, but based on the information that I read from the manufacturer; on their own each element is each lacking certain amino acids (brown rice is high in cysteine and methionine, while yellow peas are high in lysine), but the combination of the two creates a Protein Efficiency Ratio that rivals typical sources without the allergic potential.

But Jill, most protein powders contain a ton of calories don’t they? And you’re not a body-builder or anything like that, right?

True, I’m not bulking up to flex my muscles in some bizarre competition. But protein does play an important role in mending muscles after a hard workout, and running can definitely take a toll on your muscles. But this product can also be used to help give you longer-lasting energy and for some people it can be used as an aid in weight-loss endeavors.

The ingredient list is short and easy to read:
Brown Rice Protein, Pea Protein, Guar Gum, MCT Oil Powder, Natural Vanilla Flavoring, L-Citrulline Malate, Luo Han Guo.

And the nutrition stats are pretty impressive:

Obviously, since it’s in powder format, you can customize the amount you use to meet your nutritional needs.

Their website contains a lot of information on the different uses for the product, so if this is something that interests you, check it out. I’ve been impressed thus far, which is saying something since I’ve never been a fan of protein powders.

  1. thanks for the review! i’ve been enjoying my current protein powder but it would be nice to find other options that may be less expensive. the clear and concise ingredient list sure is nice for a change too.

  2. WHEN YOU LOOK AT THE PROTEIN CONTENT AND FORMULA OF SOME OF THESE PRODUCTS… GIVEN FOR INSTANCE, THE PROTEIN POWDER FOUND IN THE PRODUCT “PROTO WHEY”; THEIR PROTEIN IS “HYDROLYZED” WHICH BASICALLY MEANS THAT THE SIZE OF THEIR PROTEIN IS REDUCED AND MUCH SMALLER COMPARED TO ISOLATED PROTEIN. PROTO WHEY HAS MICRO SIZED PROTEIN AND BECAUSE OF THIS, IT MAKES IT MUCH EASIER FOR THE BODY TO INTAKE THE PROTEIN AND NOT WASTE IT. IT ALSO HAS FEWER CARBS, SUGAR CONTENT AND CALORIES

    • I appreciate the differing opinions, even if you are representing a different company. What I don’t appreciate is a comment all in caps, that seems like you are screaming at me and my readers.

  3. I have been using Nutribody Protein for about 3 months and find it to be a high quality product. I compared it to another quality protein (SunWarrior) and found the Nutribody Protein the better of the two. The main reason is that you get more protein per serving with Nutribody (26g) compared to SunWarrior (15g). In order to reach my protein level goals I had to use way more scoops with SunWarrior than with Nutribody, which meant the product was used up very quickly. Nothing against SunWarrior, but I have chosen Nutribody as my preferred protein. The only real problem I have, if any, is the price. I wish it were at least 5-10 dollars cheaper; however, I do know that if you want quality you normally have to pay for it. Thanks.

  4. It’s pretty awesome having nutrition as my life. I always tell people when they ask me what kind of supplements to take. Start with the basics and get some whey protein as a body building supplement then if you want, try an EFA stack for weight loss. As always throw in a multivitamin.
