Switching Up

So remember how I said I would get up early to run yesterday? Well… I didn’t!

I was cold all night, shivering in my bed throughout the sleep hours and when my alarm went off early I had just barely found the warmth, so I stayed in bed another hour. But I did get out for a good 40 minute run at lunch time, so I’m all good. It was 50 degrees at lunch time anyway, much better than the 34 in the morning. (28 with windchill…)

Today I did a Nike+ workout on my treadmill. I got 3 different Nike+ coached workouts after completing the Human Race in the summer and figured I might as well try another one of those. It started out on the highest incline at a slow pace, doing some drills like butt kicks and high knees. Then it took me through several cycles of changing inclines. After that it was 5 sprint intervals.

That thing was tough, I had to pause between the 3rd and 4th sprint to sit on the floor because I was dizzy. I don’t think I was fueled enough for that effort, but I felt pretty awesome after completing it all.

The past few hours have been kind of crummy though, I’m starting to feel like I’m coming down with a cold and it has been pretty rapid onset. It’s amazing how fast I’ve gone from feeling fine to feeling awful. I hope that it leaves just as fast.

  1. I was very, very careful to keep the camera strap attached to my wrist at all times, except when I put it away in its case and in my fuel belt. However, every time I did the transition from fuel belt to hand, I was very nervous! Also, the main reason a lot of my shots are blurry is they were taken while I was still moving 🙂

I am dying for a Walkstation too, by the way.

  2. Have a nice cup of tea! It will warm you up, and according to an article I read recently, it is full of polyphenols, which are antioxidants that are antibacterial, antiviral and also act as anti-inflammatories. I drink about 5 cups of tea each day, and I must admit I rarely catch cold. I always thought it was because of the number of bathroom trips and the hand washing that accompanies them!

  3. Also…to answer your question about the Race Ready shorts, you asked about whether or not the pockets bounce or not. I have a pretty ample (shall we say) behind, and I wear the compression shorts, not the regular running shorts, but on the compression shorts, the pockets don’t move at all.

There are five pockets and three different sizes. The largest one, in the middle back is where I put Gu. I put my iPod in the smallest one on my hip, and I put my car lock remote in the other hip pocket. I don’t use the others (I don’t carry much when I run).

The only problem I have had with the pockets is that they are mesh, and on one of the runs I took one of my car keys and not the remote, so it ripped a hole in the mesh and now that pocket is useless…but since there are four other pockets, it’s not a big deal.
