I got my stitches taken out yesterday. My chin is still scratched up and bruised, but at least I don’t look like I have black whiskers anymore.
My friends were all going to meet this morning at 6:30 for a 6 mile trail run. But when my husband ended up coming home from work fairly early last night (he’s an auditor… I rarely get to see him from January – April), I decided that we should spend the evening goofing off together… we stayed up until 1:00 AM playing video games and it was a much needed break. Since I was up so late, I wasn’t going to get up to go running that early.
I did sleep in some this morning and then went out for a quick 3.5 mile run around my neighborhood. It’s the first time I’ve been out running since my fall, I kind of needed to get my nerve back! I’ve been on several 3.5 and 4.5 mile walks this week, but no running.
We had some rain last night, so the world felt fresh and clean as I set out. I overdressed a little, wearing long-sleeves, so I was a little warm on the run. Due to being warmer than I should have been, I started to sweat pretty early on in the run. About halfway through the run, some sweat ran down the side of my face and into the road rash on my chin. Can you say STINGING?! I’m surprised I didn’t scream out loud. Then I tried to very gently dab at the area to get the sweat away so the stinging stopped, but trying not to hurt the still very raw wound.
Other than the stinging moments, I really enjoyed my run this morning. I’m a little bummed that I missed the trail run with my friends (especially with the way they are raving about it on Facebook), but I know this was the right thing for me to do. I needed the “date night” and the easier run on my own this morning. Now I’m ready to get back in the game.
Glad to see you got back up on the saddle again, so to speak. And I think you made the right decision, hanging out with your husband. The runs (not the diarrhea, that’s just gross…LOL) will always be there, but it’s good to make time for family.
I love how for you your idea of overdressing right now is to wear long sleeves. For me it’s to wear pants over tights instead of just tights! (oh,and 3 layers up top, and two pairs of gloves… sigh… the list goes on and on!)
I’m glad to hear you spent some quality time with the husband. I’m trying to get more of that in too now that marathon training is over. Maybe you needed to run by yourself this morning. I’m thinking about heading out tomorrow morning just because I haven’t run outside by myself in awhile and its so peaceful early in the quiet of the morning. You don’t notice it as much when you are with someone.
Terri: Yeah, it is an interesting dichotomy about what constitutes “overdressing”, huh? I was actually pretty surprised at how warm it was when I went out today!
Alissa: You’re so right, it is peaceful in the mornings and sometimes I miss that. I stopped getting up super early to run as the winter progressed, but it is getting to the time where I can start running early once again and be comfortable. I love that time.
You’re both right that it is important to make time for family, especially when his job takes him away so much at this time of year… I can be flexible in my running to be with him!
Hey Jill,
I was running in a half marathon today and I thought of you when I crossed an intersection with the thick painted line. Some of them are pretty thick and I can see how it would be possible to trip over them.
Chad
quality time is definitely important. i’m sure there will be other chances for a good trail run with your friends. glad you had a fun date night and a good run!
