This morning I woke up early and started to work at 5:50 AM. I did this because I wanted to take the time to slip out for a run mid-morning.
It took me a little longer to feel ready to go running than I anticipated, once I got in the middle of some projects. But about 11:00 AM the time had come for me to hit the pavement.
I put on a regular sports bra and then I slipped the Gracie’s Gear short top over that, since the GG top felt a little big when I wore it before. Then on top of that I put a half-zip pullover. And if you must know, I wore capri running tights on the lower half! Today I wanted to try running with my iPhone in the GG top.
(I have a case that I keep my iPhone in usually, just to help make it not so slippery and protect it a little. I call it the… um.. iPhone condom. It is made of a rubbery substance and doesn’t add a lot of bulk to the profile of the phone.)
So the iPhone with the “protective covering” was stuck into the zippered pocket on the front of the GG top. It may have fit a little better without the case, but I didn’t want to run the risk of sweating on the iPhone so the case was absolutely staying on!
Guess what? No bounce at all! (I’m referring to the phone here!) In fact, I was hardly even aware of the phone’s presence. I’m not going to be answering any calls with that snug of a fit, but at least I have my phone on me during the run. Just a little peace of mind, you know? I’m starting to think that maybe I want a long top from them, possibly to wear during the PF Chang’s marathon. Of course, that’s pretty short notice for a decision like that and you’re always supposed to know exactly what you’re wearing during the race by this point, right? Well, I have no clue what I’m wearing.
Oh yeah… my point in telling you about all my layers earlier! It warmed up today, quite a bit compared to what we’ve been experiencing lately. It was about 58° when I went for my run. So the higher temp, combined with moving and the sun hitting my black pullover actually made me feel a little overheated during the run. Crazy… I’ve kind of missed feeling warm on a run!
But that has made me realize that I’m not going to be wearing a long-sleeve shirt and jacket in Arizona like I have been for all of my long runs lately. That has me both excited and a little anxious to figure out what I’m going to wear.
The last race I was to wear my Team In Training shirt, so that was a no-brainer. If the shirt wasn’t so big and awkward, I would consider wearing it again because it has my name on it and having people scream out, “You can do it Jill!” is really motivating.
Maybe I should print my own shirts with my web site on them.
JillWillRun.com!
Some day I will be famous enough that people will try to find me on race courses and that could come in handy. (HA HA HA!)
This post had to go through multiple revisions, since it kept feeling like parts were too suggestive. Or maybe I’m just a pre-teen boy today and have a dirty mind!
So, come here often?
I haven’t felt warm during a run since September, if then. I don’t even know if I can remember what that feels like.
My GG short top is great, I will say. I was a little skeptical because it seemed like there wasn’t much support, but there was! even for an unfortunately bigger chested girl like me. I haven’t tried the zipper pocket yet though. I’m curious to do that, but since most of that is covered by layers of clothing to keep warm, it might be June before I can figure that part out. 🙂
I think you did a great job of putting this issue into perspective without being “suggestive”. I’m sure this is helpful to people who use their Iphone for music or Nike/Ipod+ purposes while running.
I will have to see if they sell those GG tops out here. I love having a cell phone on me, not to talk with, but for safety reasons. For right now, though, it goes in the pink Camelbak that appears to be always attached to my back! 🙂
Those tops sound pretty cool, I might have to get myself one. I have a thin razr phone, do you think it would slide around?
You should just get some iron-on paper and do something in Word. When I ran my marathon, we ironed on our names on the front of our shirts. It was great to have people call out my name.
Can’t you kind of see an outline of the phone on your chest? I’ve run with my cell in that top before too and always kind of worried if people noticed my strange looking, lump on my chest. I think the iphone is thinner than mine so it may not be an issue.
I haven’t picked out my running clothes yet either. I guess I need to start thinking about that!
BTW I sent you an email yesterday. Did you get it?
Lisa: No, I don’t think a razr phone would slide around in there, the pocket is divided into three sections so it would probably fit rather nicely.
Alissa: Yeah, there’s a little bit of a bulge from the phone, but it was under the pullover so it didn’t look too weird. And if I wore the long top on it’s own, well… people find all kinds of ways to holding stuff in races. If someone thinks it is weird, that’s their problem.
I did get your e-mail and wrote back to you last night. I take it that maybe you didn’t get my response?
I planned my San Antonio wardrobe a month in advance, and then it froze and I was at Target the night before the race looking for tights and something with sleeves! Thank goodness for the throw away gloves they passed out at the Expo. I think there is merit in waiting until you know what the weather is going to be like.
I have a full length Gracie’s Gear top. I’ve worn it a few times, usually with an iPod and a little money. When traveling, it is great for the room key, too. I have not tried it with my phone.
I’ve also thought about putting my domain on the back of my shirt, so people would know who they were passing!
thanks for stopping by my blog and for the well wishes this past weekend! they definitely helped 🙂
i’ve had personal issues being properly prepared for my two recent marathons, didn’t bring enough clothes, and had to wear the race shirt in the race! oh the ’embarrassment’. just make sure you bring enough for all kinds of weather and putting your name/website on your shirt is definitely a good idea!
i thought about those gg tops this weekend when i had to carry a gu in each hand and one in the small pocket of my nike “tempo” shorts. i need to get one!
