Clouds Clearing

Clouds have been settling into the valley each afternoon lately, but they leave through the night. So this morning when I set out for my run at 4:45 I could see the stars twinkling above. It was just me, the crickets and cockroaches enjoying the clear morning air.

And that guy walking an animal that looked like a wolf.
And that couple giggling and splashing in their pool as I went past the gate to their backyard.
And that guy taking his trash out wearing only his underwear, tighty-wighties.

Yep, it was a beautiful morning in Sin City!

I did 4.15 miles in 40 minutes today. Using a combination of the timer on my watch, MapMyRun.com and Runner’s World pace calculators, I figured I did about a 9:39 pace today. I think sometimes I have a tendency to slack off while running, just meandering along and enjoying the morning. And while that is perfectly acceptable at times, it also feels really good to push myself faster from time to time.

  1. Comment #3 – for those who keep score. I’m so jealous that you are slacking when you do a 9:39 pace! But …. I’m not jealous about the tighty-wighties view – that could haunt me at night!

  2. sounds like a very interesting run with the sights of the city! 😉

just wanted to let you know in case you do try those Endurolytes – you can actually take up to 6 of them an hour, and you’re supposed to take 1 or 2 about 30 minutes to an hour before you exercise. You can also take one or 2 once you are done. They don’t say all of this on the bottle, but I have a book that Hammer provided when I ran a trail race back in July that was sponsored by them, that gave guidance on how to use their products. how much you use depends on your own self, plus the conditions and humidity outside. If you do try them I’d love to hear how they work for you.

  3. Mom: No, my 9:39 pace was pushing. Slacking is usually around 11:00! You’re rocking it too since you’re still getting out there to run! And I’m glad that you were spared the underwear view, that was pretty awful.

tgorourke: Thanks for the Endurolytes advice. Hammer Nutrition is actually sponsoring one of our Fun Runs at Fleet Feet soon, but I don’t know what product they are letting us sample. If they don’t give the Endurolytes, then I’ll go pick some up and give them a try. I’ll definitely write a review on my experiences with them!
