Gearing Up: Gibtown Runner
Recently on Twitter, Chris from Gibtown Runner mentioned the Vibram FiveFingers saying “they aren’t for me.”
He had also commented on my recent post about the FiveFingers saying: “Not intrigued at all. They look ridiculous. Saw a guy wearing them on the plane recently. Just awful.”
I teased him, saying that soon he’ll be wearing them. He responded by saying that he’d try them if he was given a pair but no way would he pay for them.
So I told him I’d have to see what I could do about getting him a pair. Then I decided I needed to outfit him in the craziest get-up I could find. But it could not be a costume, it had to consist of REAL running gear. Individually some elements may be just a little odd… but when you put the whole ensemble together, it’s a real winner.
Head: Sweat Gutr
See how focused this chick looks without getting sweat in her eyes? Chris will need that focus as he trains for San Antonio and leads a team to Ragnar Del Sol.
Shirt: Nike Men’s Race Day Singlet
Chris told me that sports bras were out. Thus I chose this shirt for him, the color pattern almost looks like a bra!
Shorts: BOA Men’s 1″ Elite Split Short Hotlicks
I could have picked even shorter shorts… but these had flames and for some reason, I just thought these would really make Chris feel hot! (Pun totally intended!)
Gloves: Brooks Pulse Light Gloves
They’re blue, so they don’t match anything else in the outfit. Just in case Chris’ hands get cold… in that OK summer weather.
Socks: Injinji CoolMax® EcoMade™ Tetrasok
What man couldn’t use a pair of rainbow socks? Plus they have individual toes so they’ll work with his shoes…
Shoes: Vibram FiveFingers Men’s Classic
I chose the classic style for Chris, it will allow more of his socks to show.
Now I just need these manufacturers to provide these items to Chris, free of charge, so he’ll give them a test run. Please contact me if you manufacture these products and I will find a way to get them to Chris.
(Obviously the thought of tapering is messing with my mind…)

You should definitely feel honored. And maybe it’s a little payback for giving me crap, but then… I want to join the Ragnar team. So, that wasn’t necessarily something that warranted payback.

You know I have an affinity for lime green running shirts…but paired with those flame shorts? Extra HAWT!!!
I have thrown down the gauntlet! I told Jill that if she joins our Ragnar team, I will totally wear those shorts for a leg of the race.

ONE leg? didn’t you mean ALL of your legs of the race? or do we need to find other shorts with hearts and rainbows on them for you to change into?
I figured I would be bringing 3 separate running outfits so as not to stink up the van!! LOL.
I guess I would do the socks too on a different leg…but I can’t wear those shorts or all 3 legs.

It is very hard to resist… I almost HAVE to agree, just so that everyone gets the pleasure of laughing at Chris in the shorts!
I would so totally pay money to have a pic of him wearing all of that stuff at the same time! Although he may find he loves the toe socks, I do! But he saw someone wearing those shoes on a plane?? That person is even more of a running nerd than I am and that is saying a lot!
I actually like the Injinji toe socks too…. I have a pair of green ones. Well, had a pair… they’re pretty trashed now. Too many miles in them.
