Saucony Progrid Triumph 5
In fact, I have a problem with overpronation, meaning that as my foot strikes while I run it rolls inward and I propel myself off the big and second toes, as opposed to rolling through straight. While trying on shoes at Fleet Feet we tried a light stability shoe from Nike that I thought was pretty comfortable. But when I got back on the treadmill in the store with those, the video showed that I was still rolling inward. So we moved up to a higher stability.

Brooks Adrenaline GTS 8
I’m a little annoyed at the other store, because they didn’t check my feet beyond the initial treadmill test. I found it to be much more comprehensive to have the check done first with bare feet, and then to repeat the test with different shoes to make sure that they truly are helping and protecting the feet.
I did a treadmill run with them on Monday and then I went running with my friends on Tuesday night and they felt great. I’m a little unsure if I should trust my own judgment on picking shoes though… I thought the Sauconys felt good at first too. Hopefully I won’t have to replace these ones short of their expected lifespan due to some new pain though. I am trusting the new Brooks to get me through a good 400+ miles before I have to replace them (replacement will happen before the marathon, but hopefully I can just get a new pair of the same thing!)

The same thing happened to me! In June I went in to see if my gait had changed during my training and the girl told me I needed to go with neutral shoes. I bought some Mizuno Wave Riders, which felt great in the store. I didn’t even run 50 miles in them before I knew they didn’t feel right. Roadrunner gives you 60 days to decide if you like your shoes, so I took them back. They didn’t have the Brooks Defyance (their neutral shoe) so bought some trail shoes instead. BUT… the guy helping me told me that looking at me in bare feet, he thought I pronated and actually did need stability. He said the gait analysis is pretty subjective and a runner can run differently in the store (not warmed up etc.) SIGH… I am STILL confused. My old shoes still feel fine, but I am starting to get some rubbing on my big toe, so I think they’re toast.
I have run through three pair of Adrenalines (first the 7 and then two 8’s for the marathon training). They have been good to me. I think I am going to end up buying yet another pair….
Sorry to write such a long, rambling comment.
YEEEEAAAHHHHHH! These are my shoes and I have loved them! I’m on my second pair now. And, the 2008s are much cuter.
I hope they work well for you!
I have a friend that is a ultra marathoner and he told me, you should be able to get a couple of marathons out of your shoes. Just keep checking your tread and if they still feel right, you can wear them till they die!
[...] I am not going to argue about the importance of good shoes. If you recall, a while ago I had to say goodbye to my Sauconys when my feet were hurting. It seems that I was mis-diagnosed as being a neutral foot when I needed [...]
