No Repeat of Last Monday

Last night as I headed to bed, all I could think was, “I don’t want to wake up early to run.” But I still set out my running clothes and gear, set my alarm and got in bed.

At 4:30 AM, the alarm went off and I dragged myself out of bed. I went into the bathroom and seriously thought about walking straight back to bed to get some more sleep. But I’d already gotten up, I figured it would be silly to just go back to sleep at this point.

So after getting ready and making sure I had something to drink, I was ready to head out the door by 5:00. The sky was a little overcast and some rain was falling. Instead of looking at it as refreshing, my first thought was to go back home because of the rain. That was the ultimate in pathetic thinking because the desert rain falling at a rate of about 4 drops per minute was hardly going to have a Wicked Witch of the West effect on me. I did my short warm-up walk to the gate of my community, took a deep breath, started the iPod and got moving.

And once I was moving? I was in heaven. The morning air felt nice and I moved at a leisurely pace, just enjoying the awakening day. I covered 3.5 miles in 35 minutes and finished feeling great. I’m so glad I actually made myself go this morning, I think the whole rest of the day might have been a little tainted if I had blown off the run.

Hundred Push-up Challenge:
Week 3, Day 1 – 15, 12, 12, 10, 15 = 64
I actually got demoted to the first column for this week! In the weekend exhaustion test I completed one push-up shy of remaining in the same level as the first two weeks. So while I feel like a little bit like a weakling, it’s also probably for the best because these sets were HARD!
